Computacenter is looking for a Microsoft Systems Engineer with valid defence and security clearance

Fantastic opportunity for an experienced Systems Engineer with excellent Exchange and Active Directory skills to join a dedicated team responsible for the 3rd line support, maintenance and development of my client’s core global infrastructure.

Specific Qualifications:

  • Proven technical background in microcomputers, including hardware, MS-Windows NT4 Workstation and Server, Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server, Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP Professional, and other applications such as Office XP Professional Suite, Frontpage and Visio.
  • Very good knowledge of SQL databases in an environment consisting of Microsoft Windows NT and/or Windows 2000/3 Servers and MS SQL Server 2000.
  • Very good knowledge of Server Management software, including System Management Server (SMS).
  • Knowledge of software installation package development and deployment techniques.
  • At least three years of experience in the IS field, of which not less than two years in the MS SMS systems and SQL Server database area, ideally in a production installation comparable to more than 1000 PCs managed.
  • A Microsoft certificate (MCSE), with at least one elective exam on SMS and one elective exam in SQL areas would be an asset.
  • Very good knowledge of McAfee anti-virus products.

General Qualifications :

  • Complete secondary school or equivalent education with at least two years of additional Information Systems (IS) oriented formal education.
  • Minimum of three years experience application development in a client/server and Internet applications environment normally acquired as a Junior Technician at Defence or in a similar organization.
  • Ability to work independently, to be self-motivated, to work under stress and to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, in technical and non-technical areas with technicians and non-technical managers, particularly in trying circumstances.
  • A "COSMIC TOP SECRET" security clearance.

General Responsibilities :

Assisting in architecture design and operation of central software development and inventory solution based on Microsoft SMS 2003 Server. Managing database issues linked to SMS 2003 Server, and therefore, administering MS SQL Server database Software.

Assisting in architecture design and operation of central antivirus software solution based on the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Suite. Developing strategies to ensure proper, up-to-date and optimum anti-virus protection of assets.

Developing and documenting procedures and architectures for use within the Information Systems (IS) support group.

Providing technical guidance to other help desk staff with the software inventory and distribution architecture and the centralized anti-virus legacy solution.

Providing, in order to ensure the continuous operation of the Information Systems (IS) environment, technical assistance to the Junior Technicians [Distributed Information Systems (IS) Monitors], organizing and conducting workshops or training as required.

Preparing monthly reports on the status of the Agency’s computer environment and recommending appropriate changes.

Preparing selection criteria, demonstrations and tests to be used in evaluating hardware and/or software systems to be used in conjunction with the implementation of Office Information System (OIS) infrastructure systems.

Identifying and evaluating potential OIS applications according to agency project appraisal methods.

Analyzing and refining user requirements in coordination with end-users.

Executing other related tasks as required in peacetime and any other appropriate tasks assigned in times of crisis or war.

Specific Responsibilities :

Preparing, providing and monitoring training for administrators and end-users of applications developed.
Developing, maintaining, operating and documenting the automated desktop and laptop configuration system applications and the corporate software distribution system.
